My Dog Bobby

Bobby is the best dog I have never had. He is smart, interesting, athletic and funny. Every morning, he wakes me up at seven to get ready for school. When someone knocks at the door, he knows if it is a member of the family, a friend or a stranger. Bobby loves to play football with my dad. But every time he gets the ball, he does not share it. Bobby loves to run. Every morning, after he sees everybody, he starts running in the back yard. Bobby likes to drink champagne and beer, likes to eat cake and chicken. Bobby loves music. When my sister and I practice on our violins, he looks to seem asleep under either one of us chairs. Sometimes he stands on his rear paws and dances. I love my dog Bobby. He is smart, interesting, athletic and funny.
“The Voice”

Today, I have the pleasure to present one of the greatest women of all, who the crossover success opened doors for many other African American women to find success in the world of pop and movies. She is well known for her “penetrating pop-gospel voice”. They even name her: “The Voice”. Let me introduce Whitney Houston.

Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born in august 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey. She is the third and youngest child in her family. With her mother, Cissy Houston, Cousin Dionne Warwick, and godmother Aretha Franklin, all known as notable figures in the gospel, rhythm and blues, and soul genres, Whitney Houston started singing as a soloist at eleven years old. Her first performance was "Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah" with the junior gospel choir at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark. When Houston was a teenager, her parents divorced and she continued to live with her mother. She attended a Roman Catholic single-sex high school, Mount Saint Dominic Academy. While she was still in school, she would continue to be surrounded by music from her mother, her cousin, and godmother, all of which would have an impact on her as a musician and performer.

Whitney Houston received many awards from 1985 to 2008. One of her successful box office hit is The Bodyguard movie into Hollywood in the 90s. The soundtrack to that movie is the best-selling soundtrack of all time, and the single "I Will Always Love You" is the best-selling single by a female artist, and also the 6th best-selling song in the history of music. She continued the decade with other successful and culturally significant projects before returning to the studio. Whitney traveled all over the world. In 1986, Greatest Love Tour in North America, Europe, Japan and Australia following the success of the singer's debut album. In 1987, Moment of Truth World Tour started in the summer of 1987, following the release of her sophomore album Whitney. The tour continued overseas during 1988. He sang in North-America, Europe. The “I'm Your Baby Tonight World Tour” was a concert tour of arenas that included 101 concert dates in North America and Europe in 1991. The Bodyguard World Tour in 1993, where she performed all the sound track of that The Bodyguard’s album in North America and Europe. My Love Is Your Love World Tour in 1999 with total of 68 concerts in North America and Europe. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Houston is the fourth best-selling female recording artist of all time, and she also is the "The Most Awarded Female Artist of All Time" according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Whitney Houston, being a great pop-gospel singer, had also some drugs and health issues. Was obsession a factor of this orientation? Logically, she was born talented with that full energy and such power in her voice. According to music research, our vocal cords are the most fragile instruments. So, Whitney would never choose to take drugs for a success in a career. Such influence came from a marriage with Bobby Brown who had numerous run-ins with the law.

To conclude, Whitney Elizabeth Houston also known as “The voice” is one of the most successful women in the United States. She opened doors for many of those young people who want to achieve their dreams in that career. She encountered many difficulties in her life, but she remains a model to look up to in that domain. She is “The Voice”.

The Ice Continent

The Ice Continent

Situated in the southern hemisphere, the ice continent, known as Antarctica, is one of the most controversial and famous destinations for any tourist. Let me introduce you to ANTARCTICA.

To begin, Antarctica has no permanent residents. But, number of governments maintains permanent research stations throughout the continent. Are tourists welcome? No, even though Scientists appreciate their desire to experience this beautiful landscape. They think that they always had to leave their work in order to please groups of tourists who are just taking a vacation. Antarctica is the center of important scientific research, and it must be preserved for this purpose. Meteorologists are now looking at the effects of the ozone hole and they are trying to understand the global warming. Because of the beauty of this landscape, tourism at Antarctica has many effects on tourists such as their attitudes, career, educational opportunities, economy, lifestyle, morale and social values. After such exploration of one of the beauty of nature, some people become more concern about their environment. A few of them decide to become Scientists. They also can make money from this vacation by selling books about Antarctica, or photographs of that blue light shining through the mountains of ice at Antarctica. This vacation can also change their life style, influence their morale and social values.

Secondly, tourists cause many accidents in this place. They leave trash on beaches and disturb the plants and animals. Because tourists like to take pictures of baby penguins and do not pay attention to what their feet are stepping on, they destroy rare plants which can take 100 years to grow back since Antarctica is a frozen place. In 1989, a cruise ship caused an oil spill that killed many penguins and destroyed a five year scientific project. Due to the fact that Antarctica belongs to no country, and there is no government here, the need to protect this place becomes even greater. Scientists, who are concerned about the environment of Antarctica, think they should close this place in order to protect Antarctica from tourists. If not, there may be serious consequences for us all. For example, the ice of Antarctica holds 70 percent of the world’s fresh water. If it melts, ocean levels could rise 200 feet and flood the coastal cities of the Earth. It also provides natural air conditioning for our planet. Scientists think that Antarctica should remain a place for careful and controlled scientific research and they should not allow tourism to bring possible danger to the planet. They should stop tourist from traveling to Antarctica to protect this fragile part of the planet.

Thirdly, if everyone keeps saying that Antarctica is a beautiful landscape, I would definitely travel to this place. I am definitely concerned about the Scientists worries, but they need to know that they can’t preserve this fabulous ice from our eyes. Instead they should put directions, instructions and safety signs to let us help them preserve this masterpiece. Also, they should think about opening a “travel agency to Antarctica”. This way, they will invest the money on research studies at Antarctica.

In summarize, Antarctica is a beautiful landscape. It is definitely a Place to visit to. Scientists must continue with their research studies and tourists must explore this place. I think scientists and tourists should work together to preserve this wonderful masterpiece which is Antarctica.

"Places I call home"

A place you call home is a place where you feel comfortable. Your spirit, your hearth, your soul feel united to this place. I might be an immigrant to the USA, but my home is in Haiti. I think about Haiti every day, almost every minute. I miss its beautiful beaches, food and cultural atmosphere. I miss my country so much that sometimes I feel that I could travel there, and go straight to the beach, have fun with my friends, partying all night until we get bored and find something else to do. I am missing my delicious “Pate Kóde” mmm how good my pate is when it is fresh cook. And my favorite sweet mush called “Bouillie de Pomme de terre” (Mush potato), mmm what a delicacy!. I have so much that I can say about my country that I better stop now. See you.
